The purification of water to make it potable or the treatment of wastewaters and effluents to allow rejection in the environment are essential purposes for a sustainable management of our environment and resources. During the last decades, wastewater treatment has become more and more important and today, high technology can bring new advances in this field.
Electro-oxidation based on diamond electrodes, which enables the generation of powerful oxidants (up to hydroxyl radical, the strongest oxidant after fluorine) represents a simple, fast, clean and economical technology to restore water quality.

Adamant Technologies offers electrochemical modules based on the DiaCell® technology. These modules are electrochemical cells based on Adamant®-Electrodes and thank to their exceptional properties, they allow direct, or indirect, electrolysis of organic pollutants contained in water. Even those which are non-biodegradable (refractor pollutants) can be oxidized up to carbon dioxide.
There are several methods to treat water that contain organic toxics, each of them having its drawbacks. These are incineration (high cost), adsorption (generation of lot of waste) and biological treatment (impossible with toxic and refractory compounds). Fenton's, which produces sludges, and AOP's (O3, UV-O3-H2O2) are in most cases not efficient enough and very costly. In such context, electrochemical oxidation with Adamant®-Electrodes offers a really competitive treatment method, efficient on any type of organic pollutants and that do not generate residues.
Many industries, including refineries, chemical, pharmaceutical, are sources of organic and/or inorganic pollutants that have to be eliminated. The sum of these pollutants is defined as the Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD).
